Apple Charger Recall – Is Your Charger Affected?

So, unless you have been living under a rock lately, you will by now have heard that Apple have announced a mass recall of their AC chargers, shipped across a huge rage of Mac and iOS devices sold from 2003 to as recently as 2015. Not good news for Apple’s bottom dollar, particularly given recent forecast revisions and reports that the iPhone has reached peak saturation amid declining sales.


However, what you need to actually know right now at this very minute, is whether your charger(s) are affected, and if so, what to do about it.


Firstly, the recall is only for devices sold across Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Argentina. Those designed for Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, United Kingdom, and United States and Apple USB power adapters are unaffected so you guys and gals are A-OK.


Secondly, follow Apple’s instructions on their website to identify whether you have the old or revised model:

“Compare your adapter to the images above. An affected wall plug adapter has 4 or 5 characters or no characters on the inside slot where it attaches to an Apple power adapter. Redesigned adapters have a 3-letter regional code in the slot (EUR, KOR, AUS, ARG or BRA).” If you have the redesigned adaptor then you’re OK too.


Thirdly, if you identify that you have one of the designs being recalled, you can either take the charger (and – very important – the device it came with, or the serial number thereof) into an Apple Store or authorised Apple Service Provider for free replacement; or, contact Apple Support, where we are guessing they will send a replacement with a return bag or something similar.
